Welcome to our Wantirna South Campus

Our deaf and hard of hearing students enrol into St Mary’s College and attend our campus based in Holy Trinity Primary School Wantirna South, where they immerse and thrive in all aspects of school life. Our Wantirna South campus offers an integrated primary education for deaf and hard of hearing students from Prep to Year 6. Wantirna South campus students are members of the Holy Trinity community, wearing the Holy Trinity uniform and included in all classes and extracurricular activities.

Environment
Our Wantirna South campus is situated within Holy Trinity Primary School, a community of learners—students, teachers, and families—committed to growth, excellence, and faith. Strong partnerships between the schools and families is a strength of Wantirna South, where teachers work together to create a climate of respect, unity, and excellence. Forming a strong community foundation, Holy Trinity has a commitment to the TORCH values of Tolerance, Optimism, Respect, Confidence and Honesty.
The Wantirna South campus is the location of the St Mary’s College original school, built in 1984 alongside Holy Trinity Primary School. Students of both schools enjoy using the beautiful, purposefully designed refurbished building (due for completion January 2027) and the learning spaces of Holy Trinity. A large oval, sandpit, two basketball courts, kitchen garden, adventure playground as well as our harmony garden for outside play provide safe and picturesque outdoor spaces for our students to explore, play and form friendships.
Learning overview
Grounded in the Science of Learning and MACS Vision for Instruction, each child's Holy Trinity classroom teacher and St Mary's Teacher of the Deaf, deliver a knowledge-rich, evidence-based curriculum that supports all students in achieving literacy and numeracy proficiency. Co-curricular stimulating and diverse offerings help students to discover their strengths and passions, building self determination and confidence. Parents are valued partners in their child's primary learning journey contributing to learning decisions allowing for full participation and immersion in Holy Trinity classes to a more personalised program that divides the day between Holy Trinity classes and targeted teaching from a Teacher of the Deaf.
Our highly successful literacy program sets the foundation for strong reading and writing ability throughout each child's primary years.

Additional to the Victorian Curriculum, students can choose to include Extended Literacy, Extended Numeracy or Capabilities in their weekly program, which covers essential skills and knowledge including communication, Deaf identity and social skills. These additional curriculum areas are designed using research on how deaf and hard of hearing students learn best and develop confidence.
Auslan is a valued language is the Holy Trinity community, with many students learning the language of the Deaf community and participating in Auslan performances and cultural activities. The Young Engineers Program provides an opportunity for students to develop critical thinking skills while developing skills in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).

Transition
Transition programs for new students into Prep commence the year prior to starting and continue into Term one of the child’s Prep year. Program Support Group (PSG/SSG) meetings are held with parents/guardians and others including Early Childhood teachers, Early Intervention professionals or other specialists such as Speech Pathologists to gain a holistic understanding of the learning and social needs of every student. Our Head of Campus arranges a visit to each student’s current kindergarten to see how they learn and engage with teachers and other children in order to create a smooth transition.
