Gathering to pray and celebrate a special occasion
On Tuesday, August 5th, the students and staff of St. Mary's College gathered at St. Dominic's Church to honour St. Dominic's Feast Day with a special Mass. This annual celebration is not only a time for spiritual reflection but also a moment to recognise the rich heritage and contributions of St. Dominic to our faith and community.
The Mass was a heartfelt occasion, where members of our school community came together in prayer, fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose. It provided an opportunity for everyone to deepen their bonds, reflect on the core values of prayer, study, service, and community, that form the foundation of our school, and to celebrate the traditions that connect us all.
Student leaders were involved in various parts of the Mass, including the procession and Bible readings. At the conclusion of the Mass, two of our student leaders, Marlan and Jack, spoke about Santo Domingo de Guzmán (St Dominic) and his inspiring life. They also proudly announced that a total of $618.50 has been raised so far through the combined fundraising efforts of all student leaders. This amount will be donated to Caritas, a Catholic charity organisation committed to helping the poor and promoting charity and justice.
Fun Times Together
Following the Mass, the afternoon was filled with joy and togetherness as students and staff participated in a variety of fun activities. Bowling, arcade games, and laser-tag brought laughter and excitement.
It is always one of highlights of the year, allowing everyone to unwind and connect in a relaxed atmosphere.
Some of the students even commented, "We should do this more often, like, once a term!"
This blend of spiritual reflection and social engagement made for a memorable day, reinforcing the strong sense of community that defines St. Mary's College.
