Primary students from Holy Trinity Primary School and St Mary’s – Wantirna South joined together for a morning of learning, exploration and connection centred around hearing health and deaf awareness. Our Principal, Ms Amanda Purcell, shared important information with students about how our ears work and practical tips on how we can protect and care for our hearing in everyday life.
Students also enjoyed an engaging technology immersion session in the classroom with Ian Riddle from Hearing Loop Australia, where they explored assistive listening technology and discovered how these tools help create more accessible learning environments. Another highlight was a vibrant Auslan session led by our fabulous Teacher of the Deaf, Ms Hynes, and students signed along with a song - showcasing the beauty of visual communication.
The morning concluded with a very special Q&A session featuring past Wantirna South St Mary’s students, Amy and Myisha. They shared their personal experiences, reflections and journeys in and out of the classroom — inspiring our current students and reminding us all of the strength and pride within the Deaf and HOH community.
It was a wonderful celebration that brought our community together, promoting awareness, inclusion and a deeper understanding of hearing health.
